Safety Resources for children/adults with Special needs

If you have a child or an adult with special needs who elopes. You know how important safety is. I’ve put this Safety resource list to help other Parents or caregivers.

National Institute of Elopement Prevention and Resolution (NIEPR) defines Elopement as an individual with cognitive challenges or special needs who wanders, runs away from or otherwise leaves a caregiving facility or environment.

My buddy tag

This is a bracelet that uses Bluetooth to alert you if your child is trying to wander. Another awesome feature is it’s waterproof. It’s app will alert you if your child has fallen into water while wearing the buddy tag. My buddy tag has been shown on Steve Harvey, The Today Show, and Good Morning America.

Pros

  • This bracelet doesn’t need to be charged.
  • It has a secured wristband. This prevents easy removal.
  • It doesn’t require a monthly fee and is reasonably priced.

Cons

  • It only last a little over a year and then you have to contact them to exchange it for a new one. It cost $10.00. Not bad but if you plan on using it for a longer period of time it could become a hassle
  • It’s a bracelet. This could cause sensory problems for your child. My son can’t stand anything on his wrists or ankles.
  • You need to be in range for it to work.

If this sounds like something you’d like for you child I’ve linked the original website below.
